Bali's New Law: Everything You Need to Know Before Your Next Flight!

A levy on foreign tourists visiting Bali has been in effect since 14 February 2024, amounting to IDR 150,000 per person. This levy must be paid once per visit, regardless of how long the tourist stays.

Purpose Of the Levy

The funds collected are used to preserve Bali's culture, nature and environment, and to improve tourism services. Some of the key benefits include:

  • Cultural protection: Supporting Bali's traditions, customs and local knowledge.
  • Environmental maintenance: Assisting waste management programmes and preserving the beauty of nature.
  • Tourism improvement: Improving the quality of facilities and services for tourists.

Payment Methods

This levy must be paid electronically and can be done in several ways:

  • Online system: Tourists can pay in advance via the official 'Love Bali' system at lovebali.baliprov.go.id.
  • Upon arrival, Payment can also be made at counters located at Bali's airports and ports.
  • Through endpoints: Payment can be made through registered partners, such as hotels, villas or travel agents.
  • Payment methods: You can pay using credit cards (Visa, Mastercard, American Express or JCB), bank transfers, virtual accounts or QRIS.

Exemptions

Certain categories of foreign tourists are exempt from paying this levy, including holders of diplomatic passports:

  • Holders of diplomatic passports.
  • Holders of Permanent Stay Permits (KITAP) or Limited Stay Permits (KITAS).
  • Holders of student passports;
  • Holders of mixed family visas.

Payment Verification

Once a payment has been completed, travellers will receive a voucher with a QR code via email as proof of payment. This code can be used for verification purposes. Although there are no strict checks at every entrance, travellers are still required to pay, and checks may be carried out at certain tourist attractions.
